Book Beginnings on Friday and Book Blogger Hop: February 18, 2022

Book Beginnings on Fridays is hosted each week by Rose City Reader. It’s a chance to share the first sentence or so of the book you are reading this week.

My Book Beginning:

Right now I’m reading This Might Hurt by Stephanie Wrobel. It is a twisty exploration of fear and control, facing those fears and how much vulnerability might be too much. I am digging it. Here’s the first little bit:

The gallery is the size of a high school gym. Vaulted ceiling, white walls, movie screens on two of them. A dozen visitors line the perimeter of the dim room. Shoulder blades tap the walls. A low buzz fills the space while the spectators wait.

Wait for what? Don’t you want to know?

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer. It starts each Friday and runs through the following Thursday. Each week, there’s a new prompt featuring a book-related question. It’s designed to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, make new blogging friends, and gain followers.

Hmm. What genre do I refuse to read. I don’t know that there’s any genre I’ll flat out NOT READ. I used to say I wasn’t really a romance reader. Then I read and reviewed a handful and decided okay, they weren’t that bad. I used to say, eh, I don’t really care for horror. (This after a childhood spent devouring every Stephen King and Dean Koontz and Peter Straub and John Saul book I could get my hands on.) But lately I’ve read a couple that could be billed as such, and I liked them. So I’ll read pretty much anything that grabs my interest. That doesn’t mean I’ll love it, doesn’t mean I’ll finish it. But there isn’t much that I rule out completely.

Are there any genres that are off-limits for you?
