Book Beginnings on Friday and Book Blogger Hop: September 1, 2023

Book Beginnings on Fridays is hosted each week by Rose City Reader. It’s a chance to share the first sentence or so of the book you are reading this week. You can check out others’ book beginnings here. I’ll share a quote from the 56 percent mark for the Friday 56 hosted by Freda’s Voice! I’m also going to link up with Carrie at Reading Is My Superpower for First Line Friday.

This week’s book beginning:

Synopsis:

There is a secret war raging beneath the streets of London. A dark magic will be unleashed by the Untainted…Unless a new hero can be found. Neverwhere’s faster, smarter brother has arrived.

Sixty-One Nails follows Niall Petersen, from a suspected heart attack on the London Underground, into the hidden world of the Feyre, an uncanny place of legend that lurks just beyond the surface of everyday life. The Untainted, the darkest of the Seven Courts, have made their play for power, and unless Niall can recreate the ritual of the Sixty-One Nails, their dark dominion will enslave all of the Feyre, and all of humankind too.

I was staring into space when it happened, so I didn’t really see. I could feel the wind as the tube train bulleted towards the platform and hear the grinding and squealing as the driver applied the brakes.

“What?” Her answer was curt but not harsh.

“Would you stay like you are now, just for a while, until I get used to it? I rather like you like that.”

She didn’t say anything, but as we walked down the track towards the farm her hand curled into mine again.

Have these snippets caught your attention? Would you keep reading?

Book Blogger Hop

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer. It starts each Friday and runs through the following Thursday. Each week, there’s a new prompt featuring a book-related question. It’s designed to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, make new blogging friends, and gain followers. See what others have to say on this topic and link up your own post here.

Please suggest a book for Billy’s 42nd birthday.

Just one?! I’ll suggest a series instead – Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. It’s massive, and it’s hilarious. They’re the kind of books that will make you laugh out loud when you’re reading in public, to the point that people look at you funny. There’s a loosely suggested order out there somewhere, information that tells you which books feature which character, but really, just grab one and start reading. If I have to pick one out of the series, I’d say Going Postal. Happy birthday and happy reading!
