Book Beginnings on Fridays is hosted each week by Rose City Reader. It’s a chance to share the first sentence or so of the book you are reading this week. You can check out others’ book beginnings here.
This week’s book beginning:

The dead had no fears, worries, or timetables. Yet, the dead had triggered the cold, spiderlike fingers of anxiety racing up and down Tori Winters’ spine.
I love Anita Dickason’s books! See my review of Deadly Business here, and you’ll see why. She writes a butt-kickin’ good action story. Deadly Keepsakes doesn’t feature a protagonist in law enforcement, but it promises to deliver just as much suspense as her books that do. I’ll have my review up in a couple of weeks.
Does that beginning get your attention?

Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer. It starts each Friday and runs through the following Thursday. Each week, there’s a new prompt featuring a book-related question. It’s designed to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, make new blogging friends, and gain followers. See what others have to say on this topic and link up your own post here.
This week’s prompt:

I don’t think there’s a specific number. We went to Books a Million last weekend and came out with seven books in total, but most months we don’t buy hard copy books. Ebooks, it depends on what we might find on Bookbub and what the budget that month might sustain. My TBR pile is so big already, I don’t really need to buy more books until I’ve gotten some off my list. But that doesn’t stop me if I find one I really want!
Do you have a certain number of books you buy each month, or does it just depend?
I’m an impulse and emotional book shopper, so I might just need to keep quiet here…!!
Your featured book’s opening line does grab my attention and I like the cover as well.
Have a good weekend!

You, too! Thank you for stopping by!
And I make no promises about resisting impulse buys when I’m in Books-A-Million….
That sounds like an interesting book!
I get my books from the library and Blog Tours. If there are then books that I want then I ask for them for Christmas, Mothers Day and my birthday!
Have a great weekend!

Do you read ebooks? If you do, do you get Bookbub emails? That’s where we get a lot of ours. Most of them are $2.99 or less. That’s a big part of the reason why I have nearly 2000 books on my Kindle!
I am a library user and try to only buy books I know I will reread like poetry books or devotional books. But sometimes I just can’t help myself from purchasing a little book here or there. I also made a bargain with myself to always buy something when I go into an independent book store. I want them to remain open.
My quotes this week come from several books which I reviewed together. I hope you will forgive me for not following the “rules” this week.
You have more self-control than I do! I’m like a magpie with books: “Oooh, that’s shiny! I like it! Must bring it home!” LOL I love the library, but my husband tells me I have so many books on my Kindle and shelves that I don’t need to check out any library books right now. I’m all, have you just met me? Not check out books. Please.
I love the cover art on Deadly Keepsakes. How’s the book coming along?
I’m really enjoying it!
I have not read this author but the opening lines sound good! I am an emotional shopper so it really just depends. However, I am really trying not to buy any books for a while until I get more of the ones I already own read! Have a great weekend!
Theoretically, I’m trying not to buy any more for a while, too. Practically, I’m not always successful. LOL
Happy weekend to you, too!
I’m intrigued by the excerpt. Sounds interesting.
I used to have a Books A Million near where I live but it closed down. Now the nearest one is three hours away.
We used to have one just across the river from us. It closed down and now the closest is about an hour away. But since we’ve decided to do more of our errand running in the town an hour away (because traffic and crime are terrible just across the river), we’ll be going to BAM more often! Yay!
I used to buy a lot of books but not much anymore. I don’t really have the space for physical books but I do have space on my kindle.
What a great opener! I definitely want to keep reading. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
Happy weekend to you, too!
The number of books really just depends for me. I tend to be pretty impulsive with my purchases. So, the number fluctuates with my mood that month… It also depends on if there are any new releases I’m excited about.
That sounds kind of like me. It depends on what I find that tickles my fancy!
Yeah, I don’t have a set amount of books that I buy each month, but there’s sales, so I just had a rough estimate. Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
