Can’t-Wait Wednesday: Beasts and Baking by S. Usher Evans

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme that highlights books soon to be released, the ones we’re excited about but haven’t read yet. It’s hosted by Wishful Endings, and was formerly hosted by Breaking the Spine. Y’all can check out all of this week’s Can’t-Wait Wednesday posts here.

Title: Beasts and Baking

Series: Weary Dragon Inn #4

Author: S. Usher Evans

Genre: Cozy Fantasy

Publication Date: February 27, 2024

Publisher: Sun’s Golden Ray

Spring is on the horizon, and the Weary Dragon Inn is getting its annual deep clean. But before Bev can even finish scrubbing the windows, Carpenter Earl’s workshop goes up in flames. Earl’s convinced the local kids are behind the mischief, but when more buildings come crashing down under mysterious circumstances, Bev’s on the case once more.

The cozy follow-up to Secrets and Snowflakes, Beasts and Baking is the fourth installment in the Weary Dragon Inn series, following amnesiac innkeeper Bev and the curiosities that occur in the quaint fantasy village of Pigsend.

My thoughts:

I have loved S. Usher Evans’s books since my husband bought the first three books in her Razia series for me at Geekonomicon in 2015. She is a fantastic writer, and with the Weary Dragon Inn series, she’s turned her hand to cozy fantasy. I love cozy things. I love fantasy. This is reading perfection! It’s engaging, Pigsend gives you lots of small-town character (and characters), and there’s always a mystery for Bev to solve. What she hasn’t solved yet is her own story. Who is she, really? Where was she before Pigsend? Seriously, I can’t say enough good things about this series, and I am super excited to get my hands on Beasts and Baking. If you haven’t started this series yet, what are you waiting for?! The world is full of misery and turmoil, and we can all do with a little cozy in our days.
