Title: Letters from My Sister
Author: Valerie Fraser Luesse
Genre: Southern Fiction
Publication Date: August 15, 2023
Publisher: Revell
Synopsis:
At the turn of the twentieth century, sisters Emmy and Callie Bullock are living a privileged life as the only daughters of a wealthy Alabama cotton farmer when their well-ordered household gets turned upside down by the arrival of Lily McGee. Arrestingly beautiful, Lily quickly–and innocently–draws the wrong kind of attention. Meanwhile, Callie meets a man who offers her the freedom to abandon social constraints and discover her truest self.
After Lily has a baby, Callie witnesses something she was never meant to see–or did she? Her memory is a haze, just an image in her mind of Emmy standing on a darkened riverbank and cradling Lily’s missing baby girl. Only when the sisters are separated does the truth slowly come to light through their letters–including a revelation that will shape the rest of Callie’s life.
Bestselling author Valerie Fraser Luesse weaves a complex and suspenseful tale dripping with intrigue, romance, and Southern charm.
My thoughts:
I loved Valerie Fraser Luesse’s Under the Bayou Moon (see my review of that book here). So it just tickled me to no end to see that she’s got another book coming out! Luesse writes wonderfully descriptive novels in Southern settings. And as I am a Southern girl born and raised, her books just speak to me. I can’t wait to get my hands on this one!

I love that cover! I feel like I am saying that a lot today. So many pretty covers! I haven’t tried this author but the way you describe her writing makes me want to add her to my must read list. I really like it when an author is able to bring a setting to life for me. I hope you get a chance to read Letters From My Sister and enjoy it!
There are so many beautiful covers, aren’t there? Graphic design is not one of my talents, and I’m impressed with the people who can make them. And Luesse does a great job at making you feel like you’re there in the story, like you know the characters she creates. So good.
This one does sound really good! I have not read this author before. I hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it.
Hi, Cindy! I’m sure I’ll love it!
I’m not familiar with the author – and I agree, it’s a beautiful cover! So glad to see a historical novel that does NOT have the image of a woman looking off into the distance or we’re seeing her walk away. I’m over those covers – this is a wonderful change. Plus, the book sounds intriguing….sisters & secrets.

If you decide to give this one a read, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. Thank you for stopping by!
I hope you enjoy it, Lisa! And I’m thrilled that a Louisiana reader enjoyed Under the Bayou Moon. I was inspired to write it after several trips to south Louisiana for Southern Living, during which my husband and I both fell in love with bayou country. Letters from My Sister was inspired by my grandmother and her sister, so it’s close to my Alabama heart!
Hi, Valerie! I’m already expecting to love Letters from My Sister. I do enjoy good Southern fiction, and yours is some of the best! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
