- Title: The Boys from Biloxi
- Author: John Grisham
- Genre: Legal Thriller, Crime Thriller
- Release Date: October 18, 2022
Synopsis:
#1 New York Times bestselling author John Grisham returns to Mississippi in his most gripping legal thriller yet, the riveting story of two sons of immigrant families who grow up as friends, but ultimately find themselves on opposite sides of the law. Grisham’s trademark twists and turns will keep you tearing through the pages until the stunning conclusion.
For most of the last hundred years, Biloxi was known for its beaches, resorts, and seafood industry. But it had a darker side. It was also notorious for corruption and vice, everything from gambling, prostitution, bootleg liquor, and drugs to contract killings. The vice was controlled by small cabal of mobsters, many of them rumored to be members of the Dixie Mafia.
Keith Rudy and Hugh Malco grew up in Biloxi in the sixties and were childhood friends, as well as Little League all-stars. But as teenagers, their lives took them in different directions. Keith’s father became a legendary prosecutor, determined to “clean up the Coast.” Hugh’s father became the “Boss” of Biloxi’s criminal underground. Keith went to law school and followed in his father’s footsteps. Hugh preferred the nightlife and worked in his father’s clubs. The two families were headed for a showdown, one that would happen in a courtroom.
Life itself hangs in the balance in The Boys from Biloxi, a sweeping saga rich with history and with a large cast of unforgettable characters.
My thoughts:
Back in the early days of John Grisham’s career, I devoured his books. A Time to Kill. The Pelican Brief. The Firm. I read them and I loved them all. Somewhere along the way, though, he dropped off my list of “must buy immediately upon release” authors. Not sure why. It just happened, as it sometimes does.
This book has drawn me back in.
Friends divided by their parents’ choices, and by their own choices to follow in their fathers’ footsteps. One who’s tough on crime, one who’s in the thick of the criminal underworld. It sounds like a story that will suck me right in.
And hey, Grisham is a fellow attorney who made it as an author. Maybe I’m hoping he can provide me with a little inspiration….
I do enjoy the author’s books but like yourself it has been quite a while since I’ve read one. This one sounds intriguing. I hope that you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it. I look forward to your review.
Like you, it’s been a long time since I’ve read a Grisham book, but this one has me really intrigued. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
I was the same way – I loved the earlier Grisham books. I haven’t read them in a long time, but this does sound like a good one. I’ll have to check it out.
I’ve never read John Grisham!
It’s a while since I’ve tucked into a John Grisham thriller, too. But this one does sound very appealing:).
I think I used to read his books but didn’t realize he was still writing. I am not really interested in this kind of book anymore (you know our tastes change, LOL). I hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it.
I haven’t read one of his books in ages either. This one sounds good too so I may have to check it out.
