Word of the Week: April 24, 2023

Word of the Week: a bookish meme hosted here on Mondays in which we share a word that we find entertaining, enlightening, edifying, or just plain fun to say! Share your own word on your blog, then help me grow the meme and come share it here on mine!

It has been a weird, sad week. We had a family member pass away unexpectedly at a young age – he was only 32. So we spent the week kind of in shock and the weekend traveling out of state for the funeral and then back home again. A word related to the dead seemed fitting.

Did you know that the word “columbarium” comes from the Latin columbarius, meaning “dove-cote”? Apparently someone thought the structures built to house cremation urns looked like a dovecote, so that’s how they got the name by which we now know them.

It’s a new week. Onward and upward. Our loved one packed a lot of living into his 32 years, and by God’s grace, we know this isn’t “goodbye,” but rather “see you later.” We’ll miss him here, but we have hope of seeing him again in eternity.

Share your word in the comments, and share the meme with friends!
