Word of the Week: January 29, 2024

Word of the Week: a bookish meme hosted here on Mondays in which we share a word that we find entertaining, enlightening, edifying, or just plain fun to say! Share your own word on your blog, then help me grow the meme and come share it here on mine!

This week’s word seemed appropriate, as we’ve gotten rather a lot of rain in the last week and a half or so. This is an accurate description of the yard at my son’s school, for sure!

According to Merriam-Webster, the adjective form here is derived from the verb “clag.” That, in turn, comes from Scandinavian roots. That’s fun, too, because according to my gene pool, I’m part Swedish.

So there you go. What’s the ground like where you are? A bit claggy, snow-covered, or dry as toast? Had you heard this word before today?

Got a word? Share it below! Then share the meme to help it grow.
