Word of the Week: March 11, 2024

Word of the Week: a bookish meme hosted here on Mondays in which we share a word that we find entertaining, enlightening, edifying, or just plain fun to say! Share your own word on your blog, then help me grow the meme and come share it here on mine!

This week’s word isn’t a singular word, but rather a whole bunch of them!

I was writing a review for a private eye mystery set in Hollywood’s Golden Age, and I was looking for some good synonyms for words. I came across this collection of hard-boiled slang from Classic Crime Fiction. Such fun! And it’s handy to keep in mind if you ever come across a word in the genre that you can’t quite make sense of. From “bang-tail” to “bean-shooter,” from “crash out” to “flop house,” these words can definitely liven up a review of a noir fiction book.

What do you think of this list?
